About Echo Meter Touch Bat Detector

Echo Meter Touch Bat Detector transforms your Android device into a scientific instrument for exploring the ultrasonic world of bats. Using the accompanying hardware modules, this app lets you listen to, record, and automatically identify bats by their echolocation calls—revealing behaviour that would otherwise remain invisible to the human ear.

The app works with two hardware models: the Echo Meter Touch 2 (EMT2), designed for nature enthusiasts and hobbyists, and the Echo Meter Touch 2 Pro, built for bat professionals with a higher-quality microphone and adjustable gain. Both connect wirelessly to your device and digitize ultrasonic signals in real time.

Listen to bats as they hunt and navigate using two distinct audio modes. Real Time Expansion (RTE) technology preserves the original timing and tonality of echolocation calls, letting you hear them at human-audible frequencies with unprecedented clarity. Heterodyne listening offers manual and automatic tuning for those familiar with traditional bat detection. A real-time spectrogram displays the frequency and timing of each call, and you can scroll back through recordings to examine individual bat passes in detail.

The Auto ID feature analyzes echolocation patterns and suggests the two most likely bat species in real time, using the same identification technology as professional Kaleidoscope software. Currently, the app can identify 26 species across North America, 25 in Europe, and 57 in the neotropics. This feature is invaluable for field research and citizen science projects, though it works best on single bats in open environments and should not be the sole basis for scientific conclusions.

Record full-spectrum .wav files using triggered or manual recording modes, then review them at fractional playback speed. Add voice or text notes directly to recordings for field documentation. View your recording locations on satellite or road maps, with identified species codes overlaid for easy reference. Transfer recordings to your computer via Wi-Fi for further analysis in specialized software, or share them via email and text with colleagues and collaborators.

Whether you're tracking migration patterns, conducting acoustic surveys, or simply discovering the hidden acoustic landscape in your local area, the Echo Meter Touch Bat Detector connects you with these ecologically vital creatures in ways previously available only to professionals. Download the app to begin exploring.
